I might be wrong but isnt 4x4 not supposed to be driven over 15mph? At least my short memory tells me that.

there's 4hi and 4low.

4low probably shouldn't be pushed past 20. I've seen guys drive 4high at highway speeds, though I wouldn't personally do that.

Keegan, you beat the hell out of your truck. I've been reading thru the posts and you are always breaking crap. From your posts it sounds like you've been wheeling Mt. Everest.

I honestly don't drive it hard at all.

It has 275,000Km on it and there are a lot of parts on it that are in need of replacement. It was a farm truck before I owned it, and from what I can tell its been through a lot ( I can tell the passenger side was mucked up good, as the door is a replacement). It has also been repainted, rebuilt motor, and it came with a 5th wheel hookup.

I knew this when I purchased the truck. But $500 canadian for something to drive around and not worry about getting wrecked is worth it to me.

This summer I plan to tear it down and give it a good once over to get everything working better.

Huh, Ive hit 75+ MPH on snowy roads in 4hi on more than one occasion, no problems yet. And I have definitely went much faster than 20 MPH in 4low... heck, Ive even hit overdrive in 4low cruising in the dunes at Silver Lake

Understandable haha.

Anyone tried welding these things in place? Not a huge bead... but a small tack on the outer side just for "added security" ??

I'm gonna tear it apart tomorrow and see if its the same location where the cap fell out the first time.

ujoints ive heard are ment to be breakable to some extent. So that other more expensive parts dont fail in its place. Welding them might put more stress on the axle shaft or yoke.

I know they "suggest" in the manual that 4HI not be pushed past 55mph and that 4LO not be pushed past 25mph. I've always stuck to these boundaries just to be safe, but it can probably take more than that.

just a random question... to replace it, do you have to take apart the diff and undo the c clip to get the axle out or does it pull out like the other side?

Neither of the front axles have c-clips, they just slide out.
