I have the same question. Mine's a 2001 Ram 1500. Is there some type of transmission chart reflecting which years can be used with which model?

The grand Cherokee used the 42re behind the 5.2L. At least every grand Cherokee ive worked on has had a 42re.

Im sorry they werent 42re's they were 44re's. Not 46re's.

I just looked it up.

The only year the jeep Grand Cherokee used the 46RE behind the 5.2 was from 94-95.

From 96-00 it the Jeep Grand Cherokee used the 44re, which is just about identical to the 42re, only difference would be the clutch capacity.

The only Jeep Grand Cherokees ive ever worked on had the 44re. The 42re was used behind the 4.0l in the grand cherokees. But from 91-93 the grand cherokee used the AW30-40LE behind the 4.0l.

The ones off of the top of my head are 3 from 97-98, 2 from 99-00, and a few 96's. All were the 44re.

The 5.9's do in fact have the 46re, but not the 5.2
