Default Rebuild or Replace 360?

New to the tread and man has it been helpful. Here's my question:

I bought a 99 2500 with a bad motor? I was just going to drop a motor in it and sale but have decided to keep. I have been reading lots of threads on Mods and have decided to play a little. I am looking at a 360 with 115K that a board member has ($450 shipped to me) but am now thinking about rebuilding my motor. Either way i want to add a cam, do some head work, Fastman TB etc. So, should I buy the motor with 115K add a cam, heads, TB and roll or spend the money on my bottom end then do the other stuff? My budget is $1000.

Thanks

You better double, maybe triple that budget depending on what you want to accomplish.

So - buy the 117K motor and add TB, intake mod and drive on?

what part of the engine is bad?? this will determine if you need a new shortblock or not. if you have a head issue, then you can add all the stuff you want to your current bottom end. if its a block problem then you may be able to fix/machine it, if you cant, you will have to get a new one.

ya, you will want to check it out, but it may not be too bad. you might be able to getaway with a basic re-build kit...and possibly a crankshaft, lol
