Couple inches. It's much farther to put it in low. Has to be almost touching the dash for low. All I do for hi is use a couple fingers and pull it back nice and easy.

A couple inches sounds better to me, but there is no gently pulling it back,LOL I have to grab it and pull hard as hell and fast(minds out of gutter,LOL) . I can feel a click in the shifter at the end of the throw when it engages. And when I put it back into 2 wheel I have to take the palm of my hand and slam it pretty hard to get it to go back to 2 wheel position. I know the linkage under the truck is ok. So maybe the shifter itself is rusted or binding in some way? BTW, the last time I adjusted the linkage, when I had it disconnected underneath, IIRC ,the shifter moved easily.

And to be honest Ramman, you are the first person that I've seen on here that can gently pull back on it. So I'm hoping it the shifter mechanism itself.

I have to jerk mine pretty hard to slam it in, but it pops out nice and easy.

Any chance you hear a couple clanks when you first drive in reverse? LOL I did some adjusting and it goes in easy now but pops out real hard. Anyway, I put a POSI-LOK in today, to eliminate any CAD probs and it still does the clanking. As far as the posi-lok goes, it's fitting that the name starts with POS. as far as I'm concerned.

couple of inches. mine's very firm going to 4low. but my 2hi-4hi shifts pretty easy. no clanking from t-case (knock on wood). but my rear diff has a lot of play with the powertrax. it clanks.

aw come on. the posilok is a test of your engineering ability... haha
i did exactly like it said and drilled a pilot hole directly into the ....... steering reinforcement plate. arghhh. then i melted the outer part on the exhaust manifold. then mine froze up/stuck and wouldn't move.
