Cool Best exhaust set up for my truck

Hey before anyone tells me to do a search on this topic I already have. I was wanting to know who out there has an 01 w/360 and what exhaust option should I use for best power without losing any bottom end as so many posts talk about.
1. I have my factory cat in place still.
--Should I gut it or leave it alone. (I dont care about 1 eyed salamanders
that might die one day cause of my gutted cat):

2. I want to keep a single exhaust dumping out the side with a dual 3inch tip
with a flowmaster 44 or a Dynomax ultraflow. Any suggestions which one I
should go with?

Just wanting to get a good sound and the best bang for my buck. (minds out of gutter.)

Im all for custom exhaust, in fact I encourage it. unfortunatly I dont think you will notice any power gains or losses with a mostly factory engine just by changing tubing and muffler, i beleive the bottleneck in our systems are the exhaust manifolds.
If you are after sound, however, welcome to the club of neverending debate. My truck has the factory y-pipe into a 3" single pipe into a 3" Flowmaster super 40, into factory 3" tailpipe. Everyone loves the sound but say that they could never drive a truck that loud everyday. If you want it that loud, you have to really want it... ya know?
If you have a 1500, Flowmaster makes an awsome kit you should check out, it uses a dual exit muffler that dumps dual 3" stainless tips infront of the passanger tire. I wanted this kit but the frame on a 2500 is too big.
The cat makes a big sound differance. I ran my super 40 for 6 months before i decided to go all the way and delete the cat. I was rewarded with about a 25% volume increase and a fair bit more rasp, but nowhere near glasspacks or straightpipe.
If your into other suggestions, as i mentioned in another thread, checkout www.corsamufflers.com i really like the sound and quality of their stuff and will definatly be my first choice for my next project.
As for bang for your buck, I dont like the real cheap mufflers, ie. $40 glasspacks. so my first choice for bang-for-buck would be either a flowmaster of your choice or a magnaflow, both retail for under $100 and should make your ears very happy.

just a suggestion, im fixin to go to a single 3" system and instead of welding my muffler in place im gonna clamp it so it would be easier to experiment with others if i dont like it.....i also have gutted my cat but will do away with it b/c i figure its just a place for the gases to expand and disrupt their flow even tho it gives a little bit more sound

My suggestion would be to get a high flow cat (under $100) because your factory one is
probably in rough shape. Either muffler will do, it will all depend on how you want the truck
to sound. As long as you keep the system as a 2 into 1 and don't exceed 3'' diameter pipe
you won't have any loss in the low end.

Hi. All I did to my 98 360, aftermarket cat and a Magna flow S/S muffler. sounds nice and a little bit more responsive. Notice it when towing my 5th wheel engine is up on the tach and speed quicker.

cheers

my check engine light came on about 2 weeks after i did it and was one for a week at the most and whent off and havnt had any problems since seems to run fine and no problems. i just cut it right behind the cat and zip tied the rest of it over to the drive shaft and took a hammer and chisle and knocked the stuff out and reved it up to blow it out and then welded it best i could and when i went to the exhaust shop to do the rest of my exhaust i got them to finish welding it.
