Almost guarantee you it'll set off a CEL. Our trucks sometimes don't mind the 180 t-stat, but I don't think I've seen one yet that didn't set off a CEL with the 160.

How cold does the weather get in PA? I don't know if I'd run it during the winter.

yeah its in the negatives with wind chill right now. Im looking at one so i can run my fast tune on the SCT. Hoping it would fix pinging issue. I talked to hemi and he said it was worth a shot along with colder plugs octane booster and the 160. Im already running 93 oct but ill still ping even on my slower tune. Already have the 3923s unless theres another set of colder plugs i should get? So i thought of running a 160 stat.

you could give it a try. maybe the tuner program could ignore the temp CEL ????
if not it'll probably set a code.
if you don't have emissions inpection and all that, and don't mind the code, then go for it.

you have a problem if you are pinging with 93 octane and the economy tune. Find the problem instead of trying to bury it.

I was having a hell of a problem finding a ping in my truck that I had to really dig into the engine to get after. I'd suggest pulling your injectors and cleaning them, cleaning or replacing the IAT sensor, and possibly even replacing your coolant temp sensor.

And I know everyone says this, but have you checked your plenum gasket? even if you have fixed it recently, visually check the plenum for oil.

Yeah, I agree with Squirrels. I ping very slightly for a second or two at WOT on my performance setting with my Flashpaq, and I know thats because I have a slightly leaky plenum.

Or at least, I hope I know its my slightly leaky plenum.

Well i dont have an econemy tune. I have two performance tunes one faster than the other. I ping a little at top end of WOT on the second performance tune. The first performance tune wasnt a bad ping but i had the second one made to try and stop ping completely. Now though when i throw the higher end tune on it pings more than it used to, so im running the second tune and keep my foot and a moderate level. I think is a ****ty 180 stat i installed, i was planning on grabbing another( stant this time) and swapping a new one in first, thats when i got the 160 stat idea. I just did a plenum swap but ill check again when i get a chance. Where is the coolant temp sensor.

Oh and squirrel, did you find out what was making you ping. I was following your thread for awhile but didnt see if you fixed it finally.

I just read that swapping my wires for new ones might help. Would be a good time to hit the 8mm wires. THink that would make a difference?
