I have a 98 RAM 4x4 1500 5.9 that has a 46RE. I don't have an O/D on/off button. The Dodge service guys said if i want to have the option to manually switch it off i need a new trans, harness and computer. I call B.S. because when i tow with it, if i hit a good hill with the cruise on, my "O/D off" light comes on. If I pull over and shift into park it goes off and as long as i keep the cruise off it doesn't come back on. So I guess my question is. Is there a way to add a switch to my 46RE to manually turn off the Overdrive? I'm not real sure where on the harness under the dash I should be looking for a plug since I don't have another truck here that has O/D switch installed where i could trace it to. Any help would be greatly appriciated.
Wow, I've never herd of that one. I've never seen on without the OD cancel button. Either on the dash or end of shifter. I think they are full of BS too. They are not going to change the run down the assembly line just to take that out, wireing and everything I think would be there.
I keep getting that from transmission guys. "I've never seen a truck that didn't have that option before". On the dash where it should be is my heated mirrors button. If you know what wires on the PCM or on the transmission i should tap into to try and make a generic on off button that would be a great help. On some schmatics i've seen it says pin 10 on the PCM is the O/D switch input and others says pin 13 on the PCM. I'd rather not chance it here and fry out a channel on my PCM. Which wires on the transmission control the overdrive? I can't find that on any schmatic i've seen. Thanks for your help.
I will try to post a wire schematic today for you.
thanks man I really appriciate that. I'll be sure to let you know how it goes so people will know for the future that if they don't have the switch they can still cancel O/D.
