Default Losing Oil Problem

I'm going to try to make this long story short but anyways, I've had my truck for about 8 months now and ever since I got it I've been losing oil (some how). So far they checked for a leak which they didn't find any so they put a dye in my oil when they refilled it back up to find out where it was leaking from. About a month later I took it in again, and they put in new intake gaskets in it. Another month or two later I'm still losing oil so I take it back once again and they start an oil analysis test which they just filled up my oil, an every 1000 miles I took it back to them to check the level to make sure it is fine and they had me do this 5 times.

Well I finished my 5th trip in there about a month ago and I kinda forgot about checking my oil myself. Well I did today and its all the way down to the add line. I checked my oil a few months ago and it was about half way between add and filled. Once I get my rebate for my tires I'm taking my truck in to get my ball joints done and I'm going to bring this issue up once again. I've taken my truck back to the dealer who I got it from for all the work that has been done (rebuilt tranny, u joints, wheel bearings an this oil problem).

I guess I'm looking towards some sort of input towards my problem like what it might be and also what I could say to the mechanic when I go in. I've had my truck in there atleast five times for this problem and it is getting old pretty quick. I do have an extended warranty on my truck but still every time I take it in it costs me $100.

Leaking Plenum gasket. Have somebody floor it(with the truck off and the air intake off) and look down the throttle body with a flashlight. If you have oil pooling in there, you have a leaking plenum gasket.

This kit should fix the leaking plenum forever:

Here is a How-To on replacing the plenum gasket.

Also recomended when you replace your plenum gasket is the Kegger Mod

so you're paying somebody $100 a visit to NOT fix your truck. i think you know the answer to that one.

its got to be going somewhere - either on the ground or out the tailpipe. if your plenum gasket has never been replaced, then that's all it is. its a simple repair. i think your mechanic is taking you for a major ride at $100 a pop and all that oil analysis is just a bunch of bs. i doubt that they're even sending it out. probably just making a show of drawing out oil, collecting $100 from you, and then laughing like hell. this is either not a dodge dealer, or the worst excuse for a service shop i've ever heard. any dodge service manager or tech that's been there more than 4 hours knows that the plenum gasket is the most likely internal oil leak. either way, they're screwing you over.

like purple said, look down the throttle body with a flashlight and when you see a puddle of oil, then do a search here on "plenum". then either spend the $100 on more oil and keep it filled, or fix it yourself, or find a new mechanic that will fix your truck instead of screwing you out of your money.

and fill out your signature so we can see what year and model your truck is.

Lets just say I haven't had the best experience with this place. I took my truck in there about a month after I got it for a squeeky noise (which I thought was a wheel bearing and I'm pretty sure it was). Anyways, they replaced that and when I picked up my truck I didn't hear the noise anymore. Well either that same day or the next it comes back again so the following week I take it back and they replaced the u joints. I was told how could they do the wheel bearing and not know the u joints were "bad"? After the u joints I get it back and once again I still have this noise. I took it back again and they said they said they replaced everything up front that they could and it must be the breaks and they would look it out. They looked at the breaks and said they were fine and didn't know what the noise was (I didn't get charged for this). Well after this I ge fed up and decide just to replace my break pads. Once I pulled the right side pads, I found one of the pads were cracked. Well after I replaced both sides, guess what? This squeeky noise is gone.

As for this oil analysis test, I wasn't charged for it. As for the $100, that is the deducitible I pay and the company I bought it through pays the rest (if they cover the work). I'm so glad I got this too because so far its paid for a transmission rebuild, u joints, wheel bearing, another thing or two and soon my ball joints. I guess the only reason why I keep going back to this dealer is because it is so close to my house. I can just drop my truck off and walk home and not have to worry about finding a ride.

Ya, I wanna know that too.. I have a very erratic idle and somewhat sooty tailpipes.. and I hear a whistling noise while my truck is at idle that i can't find. maybe that is a plenum leak... holy crap...
