Exclamation bringing my truck back to life

i have a 1996 Dodge Ram sport 5.9 V8
it used to be my dads and he never took care of it.....it has 182,000 miles

the truck is now mine but i would like to know what are some of the
main things i should do to the engine. It still runs but how can i make it like new with out re-building it.

also what are other things i should watch out for.....any parts in particular that would be worn out by now.

i think the only thing he has changed is the engine oil.....since he got it . so what oils and fluids should i change

Thanks -Eric-

All fluids. Run some seafoam through it.

You prolly should change the differential fluid... especially if you have a limited slip.

Transmission fluid... ad-least make sure its topped off

I would make sure the belt / heater hoses look ok

look for any leaks / notice if it burns a lot of oil

Blinker Fluid...

and make sure your break fan is still in sync with your muffler bearings.. =P

elbow grease and headlight fluid is a must.

+1 on the seafoam. If your adventurous, take off your valve covers and check your push rods rockers and springs. See if theres any little pieces missing. Change all fluids. Id recommend running Engine Restore in your oil, and some sort of stop leak/preventative in your tranny. Flush your coolant if it hasnt been done in awhile. Check your plugs and wires.

No additives in the tranny. MonteC told me.

I would also run an engine flush or seafoam in the oil. I did an engine flush and cleaned out my pan. I was amazed by all of the gunk that came out of the motor!
