Default Preventative maintenance tips?

Hi everyone, new to the forum, seems to be a wealth of knowledge which is great!

I have a 2000 Ram Sport (5.9L, 4X4) with about 87K on the clock. Anything I should be looking out for right about now? Trans is my major concern, should I really be worried? Are there any other preventative maintenance steps I can take to ensure a long happy life. I am also planning a 2000 mile road trip in April, and really dont want to be left stranded.

Thanks guys!

Check your plenum.

Not sure how much you want to spend, but i'd aconsider doing:

diff lube change
oil change
plugs
cap/rotor
air filter

I haven't added one yet to my truck but I would suggest a tranny cooler too. Dodge's are known for trans issues and if I were you I would invest a little money into it to try to ensure that it lasts as long as possible. Also I would do a flush and filter change and adjust the bands.

I think a trans temp gauge is almost as important as the cooler itself, maybe more so. It's the only way you know if your cooler is even working like you hope it is.

i wouldn't do a flush, just filter change and adjust the bands and use AFT+4

You mean you can't rely on the idiot light in the dash to tell you when your trans is too hot??? HEHE

Well, considering it doesn't come on until 275 degrees, if you see it, it is probably too late already.
