Default Installed New Engine...

Hello everyone, I recently had the 5.9 for my 99 ram 4x4 rebuilt, the removal and installation went well but...I now have a new issue that I hope someone can give me direction on.

The new engine starts and idles smoother than when it was new IMO, the problem is with the truck in park and gradually increasing the rpm it will start to cut out when it reaches about 1500 rpm's and will progressivly get worse the higher you go. If I drive it down the road it seems to operate "ok" but the transmission seems to downshift a bit erratically, which I assume has something to do with this cutting in and out issue.

Is there something that needs to be done to help the computer relearn after a new engine is installed??

had the same promblem when i did my and no one know what it was after about 3days trying to figur it out and going over everthing i had a pinch wire on the crank sen and the dis was in wrongy.
Now when you put your dis in it is a 2 piece the shaft that has the gear on it that runs off the cam and drives the oil pump and the dis. What i did was i put the shaft in one tooth off and it did the same thing ran great idle but would get above 1500 rpm. So an easly way of see what you did or if this is your prom lose the dis bolt 12mm i think and turn the dis while the motor run and have someone trying to rev it a little and i mean you almost have to spin that dis 180 almost.
If you do get it running right that way you have to pull the dis and putt a flat head screw drive were the dis would sit on that gear and move it only one tooth though and make sure you turn it the right way. I hope his help and the way it acting i am 99% sure that your promblem.

Yeah, sounds like the timings out. Put #1cyl to TDC on the comp stroke, the slot in the oil/dist gear drive should be at 11:45/5:45 (o clock), if it isnt pull out the geardrive and drop back in so it is(wifes makeup mirror comes in handy ). Put the distributor in & it should be pointing at the #1 mark. Fuel sync should be set with a scanner like a snapon mt2500. Set it with the mtr at 1000rpms to reduce the fluctuation. Real sensitive on twisting the dist to find the right spot. Lock it down and check again. Stock motor, go with 0 to 1*+
Till the timing is on, dont drive it or worry about shifts.

If the timing is out, does it throw a code?

dodgeby7 & RM Indy, you guys were right on the money. I checked the the distrib alignment ATDC and it was out. Pulled the gear and adjusted one tooth and all is fine now. No engine cut out and down shift's normally. THANKS your help is very much appreciated.
