Arrow Time for service'S HELP DODGE FORUM !

HI I'M NEW TO THE FORUM . HELLO MY NAME IS GUS

114000 miles and it's time for my 2k 1500 ram to get some work.... got a leaky water pump and my front crank seal is "sipping" .

I picked up this truck @ 50000 miles and I want to know if you guys recommend me replacing the chain at this millage... hell it's not making noise yet but I got to replace the water pump so might as well right? I'm half way there anyways.....

questions>
what brand of chain and sprockets do this trucks prefer "make the truck happy besides OEM''?

I'm not all the way sold on replacing the seal it sounds pretty simple if I'm on my way to replace the chain but I have never done one... What does it takes?

Aftermarket CAMS ? any good cheap alternatives with good results among the forum?

Any MAGNUM GURU's in the site with good tips on replacing any worn out parts that might be a good idea to replace at this time besides spark plug's & wires, chain & sprockets, coolant lines, water pump & thermostat and valve cover gaskets?
++++++++++++++++++++

Basically what I'm trying to say is... I'm a mechanic and hate working on my vehicles every other month I consider it work ! so if you guys can help me put a list of known to crap out parts that I should look into while I fix my rig it would be much appreciated !

welcome to df.
when i needed a water pump at 120k, i replaced everything i took off, or got close to. i spent about $700.
forget cams, too much trouble. search on harland sharp 1.7 roller rockers. same result, less trouble.
you'll need an air gun to get the crank bolt off, and a harmonic balance puller which you can borrow at autozone or advance. you should also have a torque wrench for the job. AND LASTLY, search on plenum and replace your leaky plenum gasket with the hughes plate kit. Cloyes standard timing set is fine. its only about $40-50.

dodge1500, he said in his last sentence "besides plugs and wires".

Along those same lines, distributor cap and rotor. +1 for the HS RRs and plenum repair.

WOW I looked up on the net and it's all in the same area. I feel like a tool ! ha.
I should off looked it up before posting, I work for VW and to tell you the truth I never dissected a V8 in my bench....thanks for all the help

My a/c clicks on and off every 5 seconds because ??

How do I inspect the fan clutch ? Cracks ?

AND I still got major brand questions tho:
I read around and found that CLOYES is a respected timing chain set correct?

What's the best bang for buck brand on:

roller rockers ?

Headers long and short ?

Intake manifold?

I got everything done in the bottom : water pump, timing chain set & front seal.
Everything went good besides finding the correct puller for the harmonic dampener. The one thing I looked for help at the book for was WRONG !. The book says to use a 3 bolt puller for v8's and 3 jaw puller for v10's, I went to Auto zone to borrow the puller and they were wrong just like the HAYNES repair manual.
I had to borrow a specialty puller made by MAC that looks like this from a friends shop.
http://www.mactools.com/popup.aspx?s.../HDPP9740B.jpg

And the harmonic not going in all the way on the reinstall, so I had to hammer it in a little
Pretty straight forward 5 hour job if you have all the tools including the specialty puller.
