Default Some advice or input needed

Hey everyone. I found a used open differential for my ram to fix it and make it drivable again. It comes with bearing and races for it. I am reusing my ring and pinion so I know I shouldn't have to mess with the pinion at all. Now as far as preload and backlash, I am not sure. I would like some input or advice from those that have done gear and differential swaps themselves. Will I be needing any other parts such as shims, seals, etc.?

Man, I wouldnt do it. My truck has the open differential on it now. If was going to keep for awhile longer, I would change that. Its the main reason my truck has major traction issues in rain, snow, ice, and mud. I know if its a quick fix thing, and cheap, then I would go for it. I would not how ever consider this to be a long term fix.
hope that helps a little, I know its not the answer you were looking for, but just my .

My current diff is toast, which is why I got the truck for $275 . The pinion gears and pinion shaft are trashed. Therefore, I just bought a used open for a low price to put in place of it so i will be able to drive it. I'd love to have a good lsd, but, I just don't have that kinda dough handy at this point in time. It will get one someday.
