Hey Paul. Welcome to DF!

Could very well be the filter, pump would do something similar. Might even be something common on second Gen rams. I'll move your post over to the 2nd Gen Ram section, they might be able to better help.

Any other symptons with this bog?
Could be plugged fuel filter, could be plugged cat, could be a leaking plenum gasket. Need a tune up? Recent purchase or owned a long time?

My money is on a clogged cat. Take it to a muffler shop where they can pressure test it. A plugged cat is indicative of another symptom, such as bad O2 sensors, plugs, etc as the cat should never need replacing.

And if the cat is bad, don't just replace it without making sure the plenum gasket is not blown. http://dodgeram.info/tsb/2000/09-05-00.htm

It's not the best idea to run the tank down to the last drop (but let's face it, we've all done it). Usually, if there's any crud floating around in your gas, when you let the level drop really low, chances are that crap will get sucked into the pump and clog things up. Have the fuel pressure tested to see if it's low.

I doubt that would happen. The sock and the internal filter are going to weed out anything down to almost Micron size particles. I have an old fuel pump I should break open to educate people here as there's a lot of misinformation out there about them.
