Default Need help with tachometer installation

i've never installed a tach before and i need help with wire issues. i know how to hook up the power to it and the lighting and all that stuff...i just need to figure out how to hook up the RPM wire. there is a wire on the tachometer labelled "rpm" but i'm not sure where to run it. does it go to the distributer (which is a bitch to get at) or to the coil? on my coil there is a black wire and a green wire, so could i splice the rpm wire to one of those? i really don't know what to do!

my truck is a 98' 1500 5.2
and if it helps, there is a shift indicator light in the gauge cluster

On my '99, it was a black wire with a brown tracer or vice versa (can't remember for sure now) that you connect the rpm signal too off the coil.

a lot of times Autometer will have install instructions on their site. you may not have an Autometer guage, but it could still answer your question.
