Default Remove or Replace Cat?

I would like to do something with that Cat under my truck. It just sits there and gets in the way.. Now.. Should I just take that Cat off and take it to the humane Society and get my 32 bucks out of it and go get a High Flow or should I just gut it out.. Either way I don't care, I just don't want that light coming on saying the truck is lonely without its cat..

My cat got all plugged up a couple years ago and the stealership wanted $600 to put a new one on (Thanks to the 1 piece y-pipe/cat). Well, I decided right then and there that I wasn't going to get any animals for that truck and a buddy of mine took care of my cat for $80. *Wink, Wink)*. I've heard that that causes trucks to throw CEL's but I haven't seen one and it has been about 3 years.

Wait you had your cat taken off and no CEL? If so then man that's pretty impressive.

The bulb is probably burned out.

I'm amazed that the post cat o2 sensor is not throwing a code.

Me too. I knew going into it that there was a chance of my truck throwing a CEL, but I figured that it would be a lot cheaper than $520 to fix an O2 issue. Once all said and done, no probs.

Maybe there was an issue with my O2 sensors prior to the CAT removal, but I'll never know. I guess if I were to get the O2's replaced then I might be able to slightly improve my MPG's (front sensor) and end up with a CEL. Who knows? As for right now, im getting a steady 12MPGS; which is what I got when I bought the truck!

The pre cat sensor is not an issue. I can't even run my Magnaflow cat without putting in a sparkplug non fouler on the post cat sensor. Very strange that some have probs and some don't.

I agree. What i was suggesting with the pre cat sensor was that if it was already bad and improperly reading before I took my cat off, then it wouldn't change anything after the cat was off. I just might suffer a bit for MPG's.

If i'm not mistaken, isn't the pre-cat sensor for fuel economy and the post-cat sensor for emissions?
