Default 97' Dakota clutch questions

We put a new clutch and slave cylinder in my boys 97 Dakota, 2wheel drive. The clutch went together nice. We also added a slave cylinder as the line broke off of it. The thing is plastic. Anyways, we bled the line to the pedal by pumping the rod from the slave back and forth forcing air up into the reservoir. Is there still air in there? Surely not.

The problem is the clutch pedal feels like there is not enuff pressure in it altho it does shoot out the rod in the slave. It wont shift into gear with the motor running. What else are we missing? There doesnt seem to be an adjustment of any type. Is it possible that the slave rod is not engaging the fork? We also removed the white band that held the rod collapsed to the slave cylinder.

Any help would be appreciated and thanks in advance..

Cheers....
