Default Loss of Brakes on my '95 Dually

I've got a 1995 Dodge Ram 3500 dually with a diesel engine. In the last several months I would lose my brakes(would become hard to press) once in a big while backing up into my driveway.

Two days ago that became permanent. If I put my 225 pounds on the brake pedal, it will stop but something is seriously wrong. No fluid loss. I changed the brake booster and no improvement. There is suction in the vacuum hose going to the brake booster but did not put a vacuum gauge yet.

Any advice would be helpful.

Have you checked the linings for contamination? Since the problem was intermittent before, it's a longshot but it is possible. More chance of low vacuum at the booster.

Shut off the engine. Repeatedly step on the brake pedal until the pedal is high (clear any vacuum). While stepping on the pedal, start the engine. The pedal should sink substantially. If it does ... probably not a booster problem. Check for water or differential oil soaked linings. I'd say brake fluid soaked except you said that the level was normal.

The pedal stays up and you just have to press it hard? Or does it go to the floor while you press hard?
