im pretty sure it was the same tranny up to 01.. i think.. any way i bough a 96.. "tranny was new" when i bought it.. had major issues, took it back, had a new one put in.. then i put a kit in that eliminates the check valve that goes into the radiator with a peice of hose.. long story short, check valve allows fluid to circulate into radiator, if it sticks or clogs, bye bye tranny. my truck now runs like a champ with 167k on it.

I tow allot with my truck got 240 000 kms on it and tranny is still mint Just check the fluid if its black and u see some little shinny piece's of metal on the dipstick then tranny is deff fu**t but if not Might be a sensor (I'm guessing on that lol) Or the pan seal that's leaking. A mechanic will tell you for sure what to do 2500 bucks seems worth it to me if its in good condition no dents or bad rust here in Canada there still going for allot more than that even if its got some isues

ya. i read somewhere that all you need to do that is a small piece of hose and 2 hose clamps. what is the check valves purpose? because if i do get the truck i would like to do that, but i also want to know what it does.

i know this is a cause of trans failure but what are other major causes of trans failure?

also erik... i think basically what you said, because the trans didnt shift weird at all and the leak (it was just damp on the pan, there wasnt a drip). and the truck failed inspection because the sensor. i just dont know what the code was. im really gonna see what the truck can do tomorow... and hopefully it doesnt do anything weird.

can anyone tell me what all the sensors are in the trans are and where they are located?

Default Might be his best option

I 00 Sport with a new transmission for $4500 not bad at all
