Buy american made gears... stay away from cheap overseas crap. Richmond or Precision are very good brands. Stay away from genuine or yukon. For your size tire, 4.10's will give you more bang for your buck without getting a bigger carrier. If you want lower (numericaly higher) gears with more punch... go 4.56 but you'll need a new carrier. That's my 2 cents

I'ts probably the #1 reason why our trucks dog out in power, besides the horrible 3.55 gears.

there is a differance between going slow because of a problem with the engine, and going slow because of a 318 trying to push 5600lbs, which one do you have? there are answers for both

4 things to try in order of importance AND cost (just MHO):

1. Fix plenum gasket if it's blown, around $170 to do it right if you DIY. steve05ram360 did a GREAT DIY on fixing it! check the DIY links at the top of the board for lots of goodies!

2. Get rid of death flash if you have it. Older superchips or hypertech can be had for around $200.

3. Harland Sharp roller rocker in the 1.7 to 1 ratio. CALL (some complain that his email responses are slow) John Mercedes at www.southeastperformance.com. Cost about $340.

4. Get better gears. 4.10s or 4.56s or 4.88s depending on the size of the tires you're rolling. Poor gas mileage is the trade off. You do not need a new carrier for the corporate 9.25 axle and since you're a 2wd that's all you have to worry about. Yukon are good gear sets, (usually Yukons are Richmond Gears that have been shot-peened) though I agree genuiWHINE are junk. Hosently though, the installer is 10X more important than the brand of gears you run. Do not go to 4wheelparts to get it done unless you personnally know the mechanic. Cost about $1000 per axle (one in your case.)
