Default Paint over chrome bumper

Hey guys, has anyone painted over a chrome bumper? I was wanting to paint the rear bumper black on the ram. I've heard you need to sand with 80 grit, spray etching primer, sand again, then paint. Is there another process?

I would imagine that it would be a pretty pain staking task because of the smooth finish on the chrome. You would have to sand it rough and then probably use the etching primer to get paint to even stick.

Why not just find a junkyard with a sport bumper? No chrome there.
