Exclamation Lost ALL power driving home today, 5-20 MPH CEL flashing

I searched the forums but I couldn't find anything with the same prob. sorry.

I was driving normal, nothing crazy, got gas and 20 miles later the truck started loosing power. The CEL came on flashing and the engine got REAL REAL DEEP and LOUD like it was all muffled. I could only go like 5-20 MPH depending on how steep it was.

I get home and plug in my scanner and it comes up with missfires all cylinders nothing else. I pulled all the plugs and they were all pitch black and when it runs the exaust smells bad. It starts right up and idles fine, but when you gas it, it gets real deep and loud and only goes to about 3k then if you let off it drops to like 100rpm almost stalls then goes back to normal. I checked the dis. and it looked fine but I replaced it anyways bc I was to lazy to do it when I put new plugs and wires on just 1000 miles ago, so I know its not that. I don't think it would be a fuel issue though? Filter, pump or injectors because wouldn't it stall out? I drove it over 50 miles floored, took me all day but I made it home and it never stalled. Im thinking timing, I see a lot of sensors on the TB but nothing come up on the scanner. I unpluged them and then they came up on the scan but I just cleared them and got nothing but missfires.

So, what is it?

truck is stock btw, 116,000 miles normal maint. and never had any engine prob. before. just cooling system stuff, and maint.

that one is intriguing... Did it happen all of the sudden, or over a small period of time?

Ugh, that sucks. I'm interested in how this plays out.

Crawl under and smack the cat ... does it rattle like it's full of pebbles? Pull the front O2 sensor and fire the truck up and test it. Sounds like a clogged (or collapsed) cat.

did you try checking the fuel cap? It could be a vacuum lock. but that is just a guess.

could be bad gas.
you didn't put diesel in it i hope ? that makes em run a little rough.

i'm betting on a combination of bad gas, which lead to clogged cat. +1 on remove front 02 sensor.

on a buddys 1st gen the charcoal canister ruptured and filled the carb up with little charcoal pellets. a bunch of them passed through the engine and clogged the cat up to where it wouldn't even run.

I am willing to bet you got bad gas, since it happened right after you got gas. Syphon out as much as you can run some Mavel Mystery Oil thorugh with a fresh tank of gas.

If you live up north, they put more additives in the gas to help keep it from freezing and gumming up, sometimes it is worse for the motor. Don't go wasting money on the expensive stuff untill you eliminate the cheap stuff. MMO is like 5 bucks a bottle plus a tank of gas.use the old crap for a lawnmower, or send it to me so I can run it through my JEEP, that thing will run on anything.
