Default AiRaid or K&N

Ok so I am torn between two intakes... I am looking at an AiRaid system and the K&N system.

The AiRaid system is about $165 and I can get a spacer to go with it for $75.

The K&N system is about $245 and I dont know if the same spacer will work or not.

The thing i am torn with is the look of the two systems... the AiRaid just seems to put the filter out there above the motor... The K&N moves the filter further to the front of the truck and has a heat shield to keep some of the hot air on the motor.

frist don't buy the spacer it does nothing for these motors, waste of money

then it your chioce about the cai,,,, alot of people go with the 14x3 air cleaner works better than cai also least money

but if i was going to buy one of those it would be airaid.. just don't think that you going to have a race after the cai is put in, most people on here say they didn't feel a big diff.

I dont know about the K&N, but the airraid seems to neck down a lot and has a bar in the middle of the "hat" which seems to give it unwanted restriction. Also the "hat" seems to squash down in the back making it even narrower. I've been tempted to get the AEM. But no one seems to have it or know anything about it's size and diameter. Just please don't put a snorkle on it!

ok, i personally will vouch for a spectre CAI. it looks really nice, bolts right on like usual, and i actually did notice a performance gain plus better throttle response. the only problem i had with it was they didnt come with instructions, but that wasn't a problem, they have .pdf instructions on their website. and the breather tube wasn't anywhere near long enough, so i had to go to the store and buy more hose, no biggie. all in all i paid about $135 for it and it DOES come with a heatshield, rubber gasket type stuff for the hood-to-heatshield contact and all the necessary hdw. they even had such great customer service, that i emailed them about getting stickers to put on my truck, and the lady emailed me back in about 3 hours telling me they'd be happy to send me stickers for free and asked me for my address. they came in about a week. i was very pleased and still am. here's the link to where i got mine from- http://www.autoanything.com/air-inta...0A2606541.aspx

hope that helped!

How big is the outside diameter of the Specter pipe? I would love to know if it would fit my Hughes cone filter

i have an Airaid, it was the first mod i did to my truck a week after i bought it. my review: meh

You get the intake whistle and more "grunty" engine noise under open throttle conditions, but like dodgeram07 said... dont expect a racecar.

i have heard everywhere that the spacer does nothing. plus it would be impossible to get the hat on and off with it, you only have about 2" of clearance as it is.

If you want to go CAI, get as close to a real CAI as you can, like the Volant. There is another (I forget the name) that I saw the other day that has the enclosed box around the air filter as well, so Volant is not your only option.

All the ones I see you guys listed above aren't really anything near CAI. All they do is give you larger filters to suck in more air. The reason I say they aren't actual CAIs like the companies claim is that they suck in hot air from the engine compartment... how is that cold air?

The Volant gets as cold of air as realistically possible without going to a true ram air setup, but even so the air isn't much cooler than the engine compartment.

If you don't want the Volant, get the 14x3 round air kit. A lot cheaper and serves the same purpose as the ones you guys listed above (just a larger filter).

Airaid says in the instructions that the "testing" they did resulted in the engine preferring MORE air as apposed to COLD air, thats why their system is so simple. I know this is debatable because colder air is more dense, thus having more oxygen, blah blah blah. no matter what, you're buying the sound, reusable filter and peice-of-mind.... not horsepower (not that you can notice)
