Default 98 Dodge Ram 4x4 problem

I have a 98 Dodge Ram 2500 4x4. The 4x4 is out and I'm lost on fixing it. I can put the shifter into 4wd no problems, she slides right in but it does not engage the 4x4. She stay in 4x2. No locking hubs here. I was told that it was most likley an actuator and that is a common problem on the older dodge's....any thoughts? Thanks

Make sure the 2 hoses that go to the axle from the TC are connected and are not cracked or broken in any way. That will start the process of figuring it out.

How do you know it doesn't engage? The light doesn't come on or the tires don't get power?

Like I said, check the hoses first.

think along the lines of an ARB Air Locker.. it's engaged by vacuum so if that isn't working..that will be your main bet like they have said already.
