Hi New here with questions
I have a 97 ram 1500 4x4 5.2 litre auto,,my engine is finally in need of replacement and wanted to know what the complications of sticking a 5.9 in place of my 5.2??? Thanx Capt Joe
There is a bit of a difference. The 5.9L is balanced externally, the 5.2L is internal, so it'd be a few more parts than just the motor that'd need switching.
The same tranny can be used. 46REs were standard with 5.2L and 5.9L.
You will need to switch computers though. The 5.2L will not work well with the 5.9L and vice versa. Also, try to stick with the same model year to minimize electrical/wiring headaches.
More guys here will pipe up with more tips and more in-depth info, but thats about as much as I know. Keep us updated!

No EGR on my 96 , Unless it was a cali truck there was no EGR..94-95 yes.. switching from 5.2 to a 5.9 only need PCM change..
