All I can say is my 88 Dakota Express 4x4 with BFG A/T's kicks azz , compared to my Ram with Wranglers . The Dak has a fiberglass bed too, and I don't add any weight to either truck. The Dakota is better in 2wd than the Ram is in 4wd.

Thanks for the input. Now I know some of you may think I'm oblivious for not knowing wider isn't better; but I said this because I was suprised. Before I had the 285s, I was running 35/12.5/17 mud tires. I don't remember them doing very well in anything besides mud, but I also didn't remember them being terrible in the snow. So now I have a 33/12.5/17 all-terrain. Same width, but much poorer performance. My guess is if your going to go wide, it has to be a pretty luggy kind of a tire...like a bfg m/t, toyo m/t etc. The combination of an all-terrain and a wide surface don't seem to meet well. I do love the look of my 305s, and they should do very well in the rain and dry surfaces through the warmer seasons. But come next winter, I already know I'll have to invest in a 285, most likely the BFG at this point. This morning I had never felt so vulnerable...I had cars riding my *** lol. At one point, I thought my truck was going to fall of the road, but I was able to grab control in time. Now my brother can't decide what to do. He was just about to buy new 305s (he currently runs 265s). But now he knows that if he buys 305s, he'll most likely be purchasing another set come winter time.

Don't go by what happened this weekend as far as the snow goes . I don't live all that far away from you, and when mother nature does what it did to us today, I don't care what kind of tire it is, driving will suck.

today sucked here in pa too.. my wide tires just sucked absolutely sucked.. and the worst part was.. i had a nissan altima doing circles around me.. how embarassing.. i have 305 tires.. a/t... just did like you guys said.. floated.. took me about an hour to go 15 mins... was sad.. yeah well.. before next winter a set of stock size wheels and tires are instore in my budget plan. my plan is to slap on the skinny stock tires for winter, and roll with the big fatties the rest of the year.. my buddies all wanted to go snow bombn tonight too.. Ha.. that was a big NO. haha oh well as far as mr. nissan.. i still have a ram. hes still got a nissan. i win!

There is one occasion where wider is better.

Women's butts.

Seriously, there's this girl where I work (I heard she's 21) and she has a rump that's shaped like an onion. That thing is nice and round and wide *just right*. Damn, what I wouldn't give to smack that thing. I bet it jiggles like a Jell-O mold.

Sorry -- carry on.

Take a look at the general grabber at2. They look like the BGF but not so much money.

prolly is the bfg.. just a generic version.. you know tire companies make cheaper generic tires but are actually the same thing.
