Default Rust Below Fuel Door

My dad has a 2000 Sport with rust stains starting below the fuel door. It seems to be from the 4 screws attaching the filler cap housing to the body. They seem to be painted self tapping screws. Has anyone else experienced this? I have a 2001 SLT and noticed that they are starting to rust. Are their stainless replacement screws out there or will any screw the same size work?

I replaced mine with stainless screws from the local hardware store. Take one out and go match them up.

I just noticed mine the other day. I'm going to have to treat it and fix it this spring.
