the ticking could just be an exhaust leak.. mine ticks like hell because i blew my intake manifold gasket.. im just waiting for warm weather, and i am either replacing both sides or putting headers on.. thats why its still not fixed.
my friend pluged into my computer and it showed that everytime i hit the gas the tps wouldnt pick up until about 5 seconds after. so i was just getting the worst gas mileage. so i picked up a new one at auto zone for 30 bucks and threw it in easy as pie and ive been getting great mileage since
You have to plug up the PCV valve hose and the nipple where it's connected to the intake manifold, and also remove the breather hose from the air intake and plug it. Then you can check at the dipstick tube. Only do it for like 30 seconds, no more.
Woops. Forgot to include that. Another was to check is for suction at the breather on the driver's side valve cover. When my plenum blew, there was a ton of suction through that fitting.
Best way I know of is to look down your throttle body for oil at the bottom
Best way? Just opening up the butterflies and looking in won't tell you anything. You need one of those small round extending mirrors to get down in there and look at all 4 corners. It's also by far not the easiest. Removing the air intake ,getting a mirror and trying to see something with a flashlight while your draped over the grill is more of a PITA, then disconnecting and plugging up a couple hoses and a nipple, and sticking your finger on the dipstick tube.
