Default DIY tint

Has anyone done their own tint? If so, how did it turn out? What brands would you recommend? Most home tint jobs I have ever seen looked like crap, but I image there are better products out there today. Just trying to see if that is an option, or if I need to take it to a shop.

Most home tint jobs I see either have tons of air bubbles (which can easily be avoided if time is taken to rub them out when the tint is applied) and have a slight purple tinge to them.

I would recommend taking your truck in to get the windows tinted. There was a place near me a few years ago that only wanted I think like $75 to do the front 2 windows to 35%.

That is a very detailed how to.
I personally would rather spend the money and just have it done. That way if it ever bubbles, cracks, fades, or gets scratched, it gets replaced.

I called two places that I think I would trust. Both want about $95. One said they would use Solar Gard Charcoal because it is supposed to be the best match for factory smoked glass, and the other said they would use Llumar.

Llumar is a pretty decent brand.
Just stay away from 3M. it scratches too easily, and fades after a few years.

Yea shop is best for any tinting job...looks easy but most home results are terrible! +1 on stay away from 3m...

I'm gonna do mine soon and 6 inches in the front window...gonna try to match the back windows which is 5% I think just need to get my eye doctor to write a "doctor's note" so if a cop pulls me over I got a medical reason.

lumarr is about the best there is, it is a really good company, for a diy though, the best you could probably get a hold of is the same stuff I used first time round, black magic, then you get the kit for it and it comes with a video thats ...pretty good... but kind of skips corners... but the black magic tint doesnt fade too bad, its no professional job either though. if you can get the lumarr done do that. If I do start my own business doing window tint I will use lumarr, its what I have on my truck now.

I thought that you could tint up to 6" down from the top as dark as you wanted on the windshield and on the front windows and it was legal? Maybe it is a Michigan thing? I don't know. If I do it I will probably get 35% on the bottom of the doors and the top 6"s 5%. I think that would look pretty cool.

The only thing to caution you guys on is that with the rear windows already tinted it will appear that the front ones are tinted darker than they really are.
