Default A/C running while heater on??

I have a 96 Ram 1500 4X4 and noticed just the other day a continuous "click" noise coming from unter the hood. Sounds like the A/C is trying to come on while the heater is running. Any ideas what this could be and is it normal?

Yes it's normal, and right now I'm too lazy to explain why. So don't worry about it.

i got it, lol.

The A/C pump is set up to cycle while the defrost is on to keep everything circulating during seasons where the A/C never gets turned on. without it the freon can go bad (i dont know how, im not an A/C tech). so you should hear the pump cycle when your in A/C or DEfrost, but nowhere else.

That and the A/C needs to be used to clear the windshield as long as the air door is set to recirculate ... which it is during defrost/defog. If we could set the door to fresh air, the A/C could be off.

Freon goes bad ... hehe ...

I was under the impression that the AC Compressor ran under the defrost heat mode to pull excess moisture out of the air. Is that not correct?

That's correct ... a cheaper way to do it is to use outside air to defog the windows.

LOL! I had a few beers and was running pvc for the drains in my new addition, and was completely pissed off and aggravated. Not to mention the fumes from the pvc cement.
