Default 4WD light not working

Well, several years ago the 4WD light quit working on the dash of my truck. It never really bothered me much as the transfer case and front axle still engage just fine, but the light just doesn't work.

So, my question to you guys is, does the 4WD light come on when you first turn the key forward (when all the other lights in the dash come on) even if it is not in 4WD? I ask this because mine does not, and I am wondering if the light just so happened to burn out. Just trying to start with the obvious. I suppose I will have to start tracing wires if it isn't the light.

Thanks in advance,

Brandon

The switch on the CAD serves one purpose ... to light up the 4WD light.

Yeah, I understand that much.

But could my light just be burnt out? Is the light not supposed to come on when the key is turned forward, only when the 4WD is engaged? I was assuming that the 4WD lights comes on while all the other lights come on, but maybe not. Thats kinda what my question is. But thanks TMS Bill!

Sorry ... I read too fast.

From the "What was Dodge Thinking" file: No, my 4WD light does not come on during bulb check.

Ah yes, bulb check. I knew it had a name.

Alrighty sir, guess I will have to actually trace the wire than. Its probably pinched/cut somewhere. Thanks again!

i think the 4wd light comes on during the gauge test.
hold odometer trip meter in while turning key to "on" and continue to hold it in a couple more seconds till the odometer says CHEK.

4wd light switch is on drivers end of CAD. check, unplug, clean out the mud.
jumpering the 2 wires should illuminate the light on the dash.
switch is easily replaceable for about $20 or less, avail at autozone and everywhere else.

Hey,

take the connector off the front axle switch and put a piece of wire that jumpers it, see if the light comes on. that pretty much confirms that its a fuse or a bulb
