Default 5.9 running temperature?

Why does my 360 run at over 200 degrees? It shows about 2 needle widths above 200 on the temp gage.

If it stays there consistently I'd say somehow you have a hot t-stat in there. Stock is 195 but most of us run a 180. If its stock, maybe clean out radiator/flush coolant.

If you go to like AutoZone or Murrays they should carry the 180 t-stats. Some other DF members may say that they are crap or that you should get a different brand. Personally I don't know much about the different brands of t-stats. When mine started sticking closed, I went to AutoZone and got a replacement one and it has been great ever since.

By the way, one usefull tip is to grind off the little extra tab on the t-stat housing when you replace the t-stat. It makes it a lot easier to re-install or remove again if needed. This may not make sense now, but you'll see when you get there.
