Default Couple of Issues...

Just bought a 2001 Ram 1500 Sport with the 5.9 V8 Quad cab with Off Road package. I just ordered a remote for it (the originals were missing) and was wondering how to program them, as the dealer wants $$$ to do it!

This brings up my second question, how can I get my hands on an owners manual? Can it be downloaded somewhere? Thanks!

eBay usually has owner's manuals. If all else fails, look in a junkyard.

Not to burst your bubble or anything but the truck may not have came with keyless entry when it was new. I have a 99 and it has power locks but didn't have keyless entry until I installed the entire system.

Hopefully the truck has keyless entry and you can just re-program a remote for it, but maybe not.

Default Remote help

Hey I got the same issue and sorry to say that if you dont have a remote already then you will have no option then to go to the stealership and have them program your remote. Also I have heard that some wont do so if they arent a factory remote. Yeah I know thats why I still use my damn key to get in.

Thanks for the replies! I had the dealer look up my VIN (mostly for recalls) and he printed out the entire spec sheet of all the stuff on the truck (both standard and optional) when it was new, and remote keyless entry was on the list. I will have the dealer program it.

After spending $1,000 for new ball joints (upper and lower) the check engine light came on indicating a P0303 (misfire in cylinder #3). I am starting to have doubts about this truck despite it's rugged good looks!

Has the TSB for the spark plug wire re-route been done? For some reason the original wire layout would cause mis-fires in different cylinders or consistently in one. If the wires are re-routed then they don't arc and do that.

If you look in the DIY section I think there is a write-up about it. Or you can google Dodge Ram TSB's or something and find it.

You may have to do a simple tune-up of plugs, wires, cap and rotor, and coil.

About the remote, I was shocked when my local Dodge dealer gladly programed my remote for me for FREE!! Works like a charm.

Did not know about the wire re-route. I will look-up and take to my mechanic. Thanks!
