Thumbs up Kind of OT: Edge

Has anyone already tried that new Castrol Edge oil? They have it now at our Advance...for $7.99/qt. Their 3rd party testing with the 5W30 claims to have 8x better wear protection than Mobil 1. It definitely peaks my interest... It is designed like the Mobil 1 Extended Life, with a 15K/1 yr change interval under normal conditions. I don't know...I'm tempted. A good friend of my Dad owned/operated a shop for many years, and he said that he could always tell when he opened up an engine that had used Castrol...very clean. What do you guys think? Just thought it would be a decent discussion topic, even though oil topics frequent this place.

Helms, I think you are thinking of Quaker State, as they make all the HP, Torque, etc...this stuff is from Castrol...brand new product. They claim on castroledgeusa.com that not even RP can beat this protection or specifications...something about ILSAC GF-4...this is, RP isn't...whatever. I don't know...I am not a rep for the company or arguing its greatness or anything. I would just like to see what it's all about. I guess I may be the guinea pig on this one.

Whenever I see or hear about this "Edge" oil, I always think of shaving cream.

I think that unless you're really going to run it for 15K, you won't notice a difference between that stuff and the Walmart Supertech after 3K.

That being said, I went to Wally World for Mopar ATF+4 and they didn't have it anymore, only the Supertech ATF+4. I just couldn't bring myself to pull the trigger on it.

I would definitely run it for the 15K or 1 yr...especially at $8/qt. I may just go back to the Mobil 1 Clean 5000. As far as the tranny fluid, I used to feel the same way. Then I read that link about the ATF +4 and having certified vendors...it's all the same blend. Whether you buy Super Tech or whatever, it doesn't matter as long as it's a licensed vendor.

Well, if its $8 a quart, just use some AMSOIL. Amsoil claims 25,000/1 year drain intervals with their EA filters.
