Default doesn't start

well i've had a problem in any vehicle i've had with a starter so i'm not sure what a starter would do when it's bad.. but all my truck does crank but doesn't start. the fuel pump was replaced about 2 years ago. i checked the fuel rail on the engine for fuel when pressed in the pressure valve and it has fuel in it. i bought a new battery. after several times of trying to start it and when i put it to stop it kinda acts like it's trying to start then stops

If the starter is bad ... you'll know it ... it won't turn over.

There are 4 basic things needed to start a motor:

1) Starter (to turn it over)
2) Fuel
3) Spark
4) Compression

You ruled out 1 and 2 already ... 4 is MAJOR ... so check for 3. Pull a plug wire, lay it next to a metal part and have someone turn it over ... you should see (and hear) a healthy blue spark.

like he said, if it was a starter, it wouldn't do anything. if a starter is bad, it won't even crank/turn over. you already said you were getting fuel, so that leaves ignition or compression.

My ram just started doing the same thing yesterday. I just thought my battery might have died out a little, but when i hooked up another truck to jump it, i let it sit for a min and tried to turn it over, it tried to start but just kept dying. Well my grandfather in the other truck pointed out that his volts steadily dropped as i turned mine over and never came back up. he tested his alternator and turns out i killed it.

We've determined that a weak battery can cause the truck to run crappy.

Not sure. Sometimes I think about things ... sometimes I take them at face value (store them in the "Well, what do ya know" file) ... this one goes there.

Depending on what the quality of the fuel pump was you put in, I think you should check the pressure with a gauge. But I have to say I agree that it could be the coil. I had the same symptoms a week after I put a new Accel coil in.
