Default 2001 RAM 4X4 panic braking problem

brakes work fine normaly however I did a panice stop test yesterday on dry pavement from about 30mph and nothing happened for a split second then it seemed to slowely do the anti-lock thing. I tried it again and had to let-off quick and press down again.. Brake light never came on. Front pads have about 30K and rear drums have about 73K. Fluid level good... Do I have anti-lock problems or front pads bad or ???? Front pads are metallic replacements.

Thanks

do you have stock tires on it? I hear (not from experience) that you need to have your ABS re-caled if you have oversized tires. i have the 285's on my truck and I've had my brakes lock up on me while going into an intersection a couple of times. I pin the blame on the tires for lack of grip...

how many miles on the truck? you may need to have the brake system flushed... my 1st thought, there could be air and/or moisture in the system, I wouldnt think it's the pads... when you push down on the pedal, you might be compressing the fluid and trapped air in the system and that would cause it to have a delay in piston action on the calipers. if you have the original brake fluid in there, flush it and put some dot 4 fluid (synthetic stuff) and see how it is after that.

73K on the truck. never did anything to the brake system other than swap front pads at 35K

yeah, change the fluid. you probably have air or moisture in the system.
