Default How long should an alignment take?

I just had a four wheel alignment done at a tire place and I was just wondering on average how long it should take for them to do this? 2001 dodge ram 2500 pickup.

It should take 1.5 to 2 hours if nothing needs replaced unless they have a hard time getting the wheel straight. Dodges are hard about getting the wheel straight some times. I work as a service advisor at a dealership.

i have had many cars aligned and it never took 2 hrs. it seems like they are always done in an hour. this is my experience anyway. caster is easy. it takes a little longer to get the camber set.

So you are all in agreement that if it took 15min something is definetly wrong?

Well, not necessarily.

I took my truck in a few weeks ago, and about 20 min later the Service Manager (whom I've known for years) came back and said, that even after I lifted it I had the alignment damn near bang on. They just tweaked the camber on one side slightly and I was good to go. He showed me the printout and everything.

As technology comes along, repair times drop.

Does sound a bit odd though.

If it doesn't need adjustment ... 15 minutes is fine. There's only two adjustments that can be performed ... Toe and Caster (on a 4x4 ... add camber on a 4x2). Watch your tire wear ... keep them rotated ... wear will be evident.

I will watch the tires, they also said they would check in 30 days for free. I might ask if they mind me watching from oiutside the garage. Just to see what they are actually doing and how it is done.
