Default Well.....

It happened, the transmission in my truck just went boom. Only 73k miles on it. Gonna get out a loan from work and bye a new one. The tranny whines really loud, and slips all over the place (auto) like when shifting it revs up for 2-3 secs then goes back in to the gear. And it slips in and out of the gear. I have to let off the gas to get it to go in to overdrive, and that doesnt always work. Only had the truck for 3 months so kinda sucks. lol Oh well, I knew it was going to go some day, just didn't think it was going to be so soon.

Okay, so I will be getting a rebuilt transmission from Auto Zone for $2,100, core charge of $650, so $1,450. Now the question is, what transmission fluid should I buy and how many quarts does it take?

ATF+4...here are the licensed brands:

Don't be fooled into thinking you have to get Mopar brand...you are wasting good money.

Also heard good things about Amsoil tranny fluid, although it isn't ATF+4.

Pints? Who measures in pints? J/K

But seriously they say that it is 6 qts to drop the trans pan and change that fluid out or 10-11 qts for a complete flush including the Torque Converter!

Have fun.

Just so you know though, I found a shop near me that was willing to do a bench rebuild for about $900. You might want to shop around a bit to try and price it out.

That amount in pints was directly from the FSM that's all.

I would wait and shop around if I could, but the truck is my only means of transportation. That $1450 is what a dealer would pay. My uncle has a dealer licence so its cheaper. It comes with a 3 year warrenty unlimited miles.

Well I am going to be replacing the Transmission this week with my uncle. Quick question tho, is there a DIY out to replace the Tranny? Thanks!
