2000 ram 3500 4wd.....Whats it worth?
Hi, Looking at buying a 2000 Ram 3500 4wd dually.Unfortunately it has a utility bed set up, I'm not sure if I can fit a dually bed on it or if its considered a cab/ chassis truck? It has about 80,000 miles, new tires, around 30,000 on the rebuilt transmission also new convertors.Trying to decide what its worth and if I can switch out the enclosed utility bed as I dont really have use for it.Will the vin number give away if its a cab chassis truck or? Thanks for any input.By the way it has the 5.9 gas engine. http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/j...1756-2-1-1.jpg http://i273.photobucket.com/albums/j...4091756b-1.jpg

www.kbb.com (Kelly Blue Book) is inflated for $tealerships. Don't use it.
Most insurance companies use NADA, but I find that edmunds.com gives the closest estimates. I use both.
Keep in mind, that depending on what region of the country you are in, the values do vary a bit. Look around at other lots and see what similar trucks are going for. Values may be slightly higher or lower than what any online estimate gives you.

my brother in law has a CTD cab and chassis. he's says (take it for what its worth) that the the dually has a extra set of wheels/tires bolted to the outside of the standard axle, and that it has a wider wheel base. he says the cab and chassis has a narrower wheel base, with the dual wheels tucked in tighter.
i don't know if that's right or not, but its something to check out. if what he says is true, then i don't think a dually bed would fit a cab/chassis very well.
if the truck runs, and the transmissions not falling out, then i think its worth 1500. i think you could even resell it for a lot more.

in looking at spec's here...
http://autos.yahoo.com/2000_dodge_tr...lwb_4x4-specs/
and VIN info here....
http://dodgeram.org/tech/specs/VIN_decode.htm
i'm not able to identify the difference in 3500 cab/chassis vs 3500 dually
here's some id on body style.

Hi again and thanks for the info so far. It has 5.9 gas, automatic, has a/c .Its a rubber floor mat truck. It is a 4x4 3500 series dual rear wheel. It runs and drives well enough.I think its going to need the plenum gasket.New tires and the transmission was rebuilt about 30,000 miles ago.The convertors are also new.It seems like it should be worth the 1500.00, I'm just not sure I need something with a utility bed.

sounds like a hell of a deal for 1500.
dhvaughan,, just looked a kbb and it seem to be better then it was,
hadn't use kbb for a long time, it just hard to take a trade in because it goes like this just say that were selling a truck for 10,000 then the peolpe says 9,000 then i say ok 9,500 then the fit me with there ford ranger pos then they say it's worth 8,000 clean retail and they want to give 1,500 diff,,, it just don't work like that, were is my money.
mostly the problem is that the private party makes people mad and they think they should get retail out of it, and i can see why, whats the diff between me and the dealer.
but long short look that kbb is getting better throw.
if you want really good prices black book is good because thay get action report and make there book form the prices they bring at action, and they have a new book every month so you can see what car/truck are losing the most.
hope i answer the your question.. if not feel free the pm
