Hello,
Need to know if the clutch pack retainer is vital to normal operation once it's installed.

I'm in the middle of replacing the rear diff fluid and found a piece of one retainer in the bottom of the housing.
You can see what is left of the retainer in the attached pic, it is making contact with the bearing cap.

As it stands right now my plan is to leave it as-is, unless someone thinks that is a really bad idea... BTW the truck has 47k on it.
