I just spent 1100 bucks for a new water pump, had a coolant leak on the timing cover and a new belt, fan clutch and thermostat put in. The heater did not work well this winter so the mechanic reverse flushed the cooling system, now the heat works fine.

I Have no pressure in the cooling system after driving it and I can faintly small coolant in the cab. I am leaning to the harsh reality it will cost me another 1000 dollars to replace the core. I used to test my GTO by turning on the defrost and seeing if it fogged up the windshield. In my truck I get nothing, no steam or anything. Nothing in the dash is wet or damp, I see no leaks under the truck or anything else leaking. Could a tiny leak cause loss of pressure while driving? I literally pulled into my driveway and popped the hood, I could take off the rad cap without any overflowing or pressure. Can anyone give me advice on this?? Where to look for leaks what else to test? Is the heater core really 8+ hours of labor?
Do you think it is something I could tackle on my own?

Thanks for any help, I am all out of money with my last repair. On a side note I trust the mechaninc with the other work that has been done.

 

8 or more hours for a novice, but it is not really that hard. Look in the DIY section, there is a how to.

since you dont have pressure...could it possibly be the radiator cap? they need to be well sealed for the system to be pressurized.

 

I would never trust nobody that charged me 1100 for what you had done.If you bought the parts from the dealer they still wouldn't be 200 3hours labor at the most 900 wow? For anew waterpump newbelt and thermostat i paid 286 parts and labor 2000 5.9 sport And i thought that was high Sounds like he didn't put a thermerstat back in you'll need one when it builds pressure up before it opens would be the best time to pinpoint the leak

 

I had some other stuff fixed as well, that was just the cooling system related stuff.

 

I have the same issue with my truck not getting any pressure in the cooling system. Have you found the problem yet?
