Default trans problems

ok about a year ago I had my trans replaced for surging and grinding, and well just not behaving well.

over the year I have been back in the shop several times since over 65mph the rpms surge about 1~200 rpm. I have had the torque converter replaced, a new valve ??, wheel speed sensors, cables adjusted, and new trans cooler with all new lines... in short I have spent a lot of money on a trans thats supposed to be under warranty. long of the short I am not happy.

well I had a long trip I had to take and heres what I found.

#1 starts only while using cruise.
#2 starts around 65~70 and slipping gets closer and closer till about 30~40 seconds apart.
#3 if I slow to 60 it will run for about 50 miles before acting up again starting with slips far apart till they get to be about every 30~40 seconds apart.
#4 If I let it act up at 60 it will do it with cruise off and using the pedal. going away around 45 mph.
#5 did not do it the whole trip back (which was 1200 miles continous vs. 300 mile streches on my way there) when I was only using the pedal and not using the cruise.

Please I need some Ideas of how to get this fixed. about the only time I use the truck is trips over 50 miles and frankly I'd rather set the cruise sit back and enjoy the ride. this is driving me nuts, ruined the rep of a couple shops (IMHO) and costing me waaaaay too much.

thanks for the advice
Mike

It sounds like me that you are having issues with your Torque Converter locking up. I am very in-experienced in diagnosing trans problems though so take it with a grain of salt. Usually around 50ish though is when the TC is supposed to lock up and your RPM's should drop down more. If it is locking/un-locking randomly then your RPM's will fluctuate. There may be a sensor of some sort that controls this. I'm sure someone else will chime in soon and give you more direction. If not, then I would get ahold of MonteC or Transguy to find out more.

Is it slipping or surging? Ive seen this problem before, but mainly in the diesel trucks.

Check all grounds, find someone with a quality scan tool and have them monitor the lock up state, see if the computer is commanding changes in lock up.
