Default slowing down growl sound

ok i got a 96 ram single cab 1500 4x4 and when i slow down from a street or highway speed i get a growling sound specially if i turn right while slowing down, but if im turning left its not so bad. sounds like gears growling. i cant tell exsactally were the sounds comming from but it could be one of the axels or trany area. any ideas what this could be?

Check the fluid in the rear end. Also, make sure the gears are good. When mine was shot, mine sounded the damn Millennium Falcon while going down the road.

Have you checked the fluid levels in both front and rear axles? Check the axle joints and hub bearing assemblies also.

Can you at least nail it down to the front or rear?

i recently drained and replaced the oil in the axles, didnt nowtice any bug chunks of metal or anything, also at speeds of 20 and up it makes a howling sound, and i honestly cant tell if its front or rear, i been trying to pin point it for a few months now. but it does seem like the growl is getting louder when slowing down

I'm thinking that since slowing down and turning to the right seem to exacerbate the problem ... the front left hub bearing may be heading south ... since the loading on this bearing is the greatest during this maneuver (a larger portion of the truck's weight is borne here at that time).

Just guessing ... without being able to hear it or having a front/rear left/right analysis, we're hampered in a diagnosis.

Sure could be the rear, now that you say "howling" not "growling". Remove the wheels and drums. You may find a seal leaking. Even if you don't, move the axle up and down and see how much it moves. A 1/16 or so is ok , but more than that is not good. Inspect all the brake springs , cables and adjusters while your in there.

its sucks, just when i think i know were the sounds coming from, it seems like its comming from another area.

heres the best i could figure it out, sounds like the high pitch howling coming from the rear, starts at 25 and its real loud at hwy speeds.

than when i slow down from 40 to 10 i get a deep growling sound in the front. and it growls loud when i turn right. and the growling sounds like its comming from under the passenger side floor board.

any help would be awesome, i really jus dont wana get stranded.
