Default hop up the 318 or swap

ive done quiet a bit of searching and have never found any real good threads so thought i would start one up i have a 96 2wd with the 318 and would like to shoot for around the 300-350 hp range. ive looked and looked and cant find any good writeups on a hemi swap i know can pick one up for about 1500 or so and then would have to have the computer, harness, tranny, unless i find a nv4500 5 speed. im pretty good at doin fab work so the mounts wouldnt be a problem does anyone have any suggestions on what i can do to my 318 or any information on a hemi swap anything apreciated thank you.

Many of the threads were short lived because its not really financially feasible to do what you are attempting to do.

Will the older NV4500s fit to a newer Hemi? I don't know for sure, but I doubt it.

The reason there is no write up is because its a lot easier to do a stroker upgrade to these engines, or do a 360 swap in place of the 318 (and then maybe a stroker upgrade too), and a lot cheaper, then completely replacing your drivetrain with a newer Hemi and associated parts. I am by far no expert, but I'd be willing to bet that it'd cost you just as much if not less to trade in your truck for a newer 2003-ish model with the Hemi.

i agree with jason, it will be way more expensive to swap for a hemi, the best thing you can do for the 318 is probably a stroker, then whatever else you can do from there, to push 300-350 at the wheels will be expensive regardless, like he said, maybe a trade in for a newer truck with a hemi, your choice..

hughes engines, makes a good 390 stroker from what ive heard, needs to be bored .30 over, the kit should have most things you need, im not too sure, its something ill look into whenever my 318 starts to go bad,

Also check out www.krcperformance.com. I don't know if they make kits for the 318 or not. What about doing one of these: http://www.ststurbo.com/universal_system.

i have looked at the sts systems before and have considered but i want my engine to be built enough to take forced induction before i would do it. in other words i dont wanna spend 2700 on a turbo kit then blow the engine a month later. I looked on the houghes engine and look liek pretty good prices and good parts thanks for the site. Another ? whats some opinions on boring out compared to stroking ?

What gears and stall would be best in your opinion?
