Default Thinking of getting this tranny pan

My new tranny is at the shop being built as we speak and my boss told me it would be a good idea to get a new deeper pan to help keep the tranny cooler (I never have had any problems with it running hot but with my tires and what not it would be a good idea) So I found this one and im looking for input.

I like the tubes at the bottom and the fact it hold 3 quarts more fluid is a plus. Just seeing how you all weigh in on it.

Very curious to hear what someone with a lot of tranny experience thinks about this. I'm NOT an expert, but wonder how much good this stuff truly is.

That's the Derale pan. it's probably OK if you don't off road, but could easily load up with mud and gunk and loose the effectiveness of the tubes. You'd still get the benefits of the deeper pan though. Probably be good if you hose it off once a week.

Although I did do all the stuff and put mud tires on my truck.... it dont go offroad unless its got my actuall mud truck on the trailer behind it. I will check the tubes and what not from time to time to make sure there free of debris.

Thanks for input.

If you don't wheel a lot, then I think an aluminum pan is better. Aluminum dissipates heat better then that pan would. If you like to wheel though, aluminum is more vulnerable. Instead of denting on a rock, it will crack. That's a decent price though. I think there used to be at least one guy on here who had that pan. Try doing a search for Derale and see what comes up. My 2 qt extra capacity pan from PML is aluminum, and ran like $225, but it made a noticable difference in trans temps - 5 to 10 degrees cooler just from adding the pan.

i'd avoid that pan. with the tubes welded in it just looks like a lot of things could go wrong, plus the dirt/mud.

I would say unless you do some towing, it'd be a waste of money. I've asked several shops about adding a deeper pan and that's what they say. If you have a cooler, that should be all you need. The biggest key is to do proper maintenance. But, if you do some towing, I think I'd still get one.

That pan is from PATC, so I'd say the quality is up there. The only thing that would worry me about running the larger pan with the aux cooler would be the inability to properly heat the fluid in the winter months. I know Mopar Performance makes a sweet aluminum pan with a drain plug and bung for a temp sensor...don't know the price, though.
