Default Water Pump

Ok, so I was coming home the other day and my temp gauge shot up to 220. I wasn't happy. I was only 2 minutes from the house so I drove it really easy to the house and parked it in the garage. I changed the thermostat and the gaskets, which were shot, tonight. Fired the truck up, and it's leaking antifreeze still. Called a friend of mine, and got a new water pump for it.

What I want to know is how hard is it going to be to change? Any insight would be great.

I changed the wp on my 97 318 in about 45 minutes. not hard at all. the hardest part for me was getting the fan clutch off, after that, it was a breeze. remove the fan clutch then the fan shroud, pull them out of the way, then everything should be right in front off you, no hard to get to bolts, no ridiculous hoses. the bypass hose was a lil tricky, but not too aggrevating. PM me if you have any more questions.

I'm attempting to change the water pump on my 1998 318. I was wondering if i need any special tools or replacment parts before changing it. Thanks for the help.

you might need a strap wrench to hold the water pump pulley to allow you to bust loose the fan... other than that, a torque wrench would be the only other tool you'd need to have beyond the normal stuff...

Yeah, today when I was doing my timing chain I told my bud I was having trouble getting it off. He grabed two things and while my back was turned I just heard one good wack and all he said was "its loose".

I have no clue how he did it [&:]
