Volant or K & N?
The only place I could see the ram air really being a benefit is on the highway or racing...otherwise, I don't see it making THAT MUCH of a difference. Just my .02
Dont buy that if you go muddin!!!!!!!!!!
I can't rate the Volant but based on the pics posted I'd say it takes up too much of the engine bay and+1 on the Ram tube sucking water in certain situations.
I CAN however tell you more about the K&N FIPK, or Foolish Investment of Personal Kurrency.
Cracked intake tube (S), install bolt that loosens, too small of a filter and too low of position of said filter. Lastly, useless baffling that takes up what little room you have in your engine compartment.
I've switched to the mentioned 14X3 setup and couldn't be happier.

I recieved my recall tube and after repairing it a second time I sold the entire setup, sans the baffling which I had used to build something with and had replaced with a stainless baffle from ebay. All the original baffling did was act as a heat sink, water dam, and interfere with all but the simplest of maintenance tasks.
If you think your unit works well now, slap on a larger spectre cone fillter like I did. You'll really notice a difference. For the price of the original unit, IMO these mods should have been unnessesary and the tubes cracking inexcusable.

When I got my Ram I looked at both of the intakes you are asking about and I ended up going with the K&N because I got a good deal on it. I don't have any specific complaints. it seemed to flow better than the stock setup and I never had any specific problems with it. Recently I have been doing more work on my truck and got tired of having to take it off every time I wanted to do anything. I just put on a 14X3 round air filter (every thing you need to know about how is in the DIY thread) and I am impressed so far. I spent maybe $30 and I haven't noticed any change in performance, I don't drive enough to say for mileage though.
