Default clicking noise

Hey guys, I have a strange clicking noise coming from my front end when I turn and apply the brakes. Doesnt happen when I hit bumps or any other time. I have a 97 4x4 with a 3" lift. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

U-Joints and/or ball joints should get checked. Or perhaps something is rubbing something. What size tires do you have?

Ha, I've got the same noise. I know for a fact that mine is the u-joint because I bent the stub shaft yoke when I put the last u-joint it. If you really wanna make some noise then throw it in 4wd. That thing will be louder than ever.

By the way, just so no one is concerned, I parked the truck and ordered the new shaft from the dealership so I don't do damage to my front driveshaft.

Anyways, to check if its your u-joints, just jump under the truck and give your front driveshafts a good shake back and forth and up and down along the axis' of the u-joint. If you have any play at all then your u-joint are either bad or on their way out.

I just checked the front drive shaft, and the u-joints have no slop in them. The sound happens when I push the brakes and turn a corner.Would not be surprised if it were the ball joints. I dont think any thing is rubbing, so I am not sure what it is. My tire size is 295 75 r16. Any other ideas? It is driving me nuts. Thanks

How about the front axle shaft. Look at the knuckle behind your front hub area. Last year those u-joints when out on mine and did something similar.

Not the driveshaft u-joints ... the axle u-joints. The front driveshaft doesn't move unless you're in 4wd.

I went out and moved the u-joints on the front axle, and there is a very little clanking when wiggled. Doesnt look like an easy repair to me. Anyone done these?
