I need to know if a 99 dakota 5.9 r/t will fit in an 01 5.2 ram.
I'm told the tranny needs rebuilt, but I could get the dakota
transmission from family for nothing out of a parts truck.

IIRC, you'd have to take all the sensors/wiring from the Dakota as well. The transmissions are the same, 46REs, but the wiring/sensors/electrical stuff that connect to the transmissions might be (and usually is) different from year to year.
