Default Max Speed

Sorry if this has been discussed before, but just how fast will a 5.9 go flat out governed? And how fast with the governor disabled? Just curious, not that I would ever do that.

It varies model year to model year. The governor is actually just a piece of programming inside the computer now. All were around 95-120 though, IIRC.

Ungoverned, I have no idea. Trucks weren't meant to go fast, they were meant to do work, hence why they are so heavy.

I bet RM-Indy would know.

I got my S-10 with a 2.2, 4.10s, and 205 tires up to 100 MPH one time when the govenor kicked in at 99.

When I first got my truck I topped it out somewhere between 120-130. Hard to say since the speedo runs out at 120. That was with 265/75-16 tires on 5.9 with 3.55 gears.

Couldn't really tell you now i'm pretty sure my tires are speed rated at like 90mph. So I wouldn't even try.

Been to 115 before and she still seemed like she had some more to go. And this was with a 318.

had my SS/T to 119 mph (where the governor is)

It was still pulling hard...felt very stable as well...I was surprised.
